Matau is a word from the Māori language, the indigenous people of New Zealand.
The full term Hei-Matau symbolizes prosperity, safety at sea, and good fortune from both the sea and the land.
It also sounds similar to the Japanese phrase “Mata Aō” meaning “See you again,” which inspired our company name.
